Nightswimming, by Chiara Carpenter and Giovanna Silva, (Bedford Press, 2015) is an architectural history of discotheques, recounted with a special attention to the analysis of space. Discotheques are home to different types of fun and, as such, are ephemeral spaces in which the idea of entertainment is formed and shaped. Nightswimming explores these spaces considering light technology and music, passing through people, architecture, drugs and politics; in so doing the project talks about the constantly changing world of the night.
